Grainhouse
Film-style colour and grain for phone photos.
8.3/10 overall
About Grainhouse
Grainhouse edits photos to look like they were shot on film. Pick a stock, set how much grain and glow you want, and it applies the look to one photo or a whole batch. The results hold up at full size, which most filter apps cannot claim.
Roll mode is the fun part. It limits you to 36 frames and hides the results until the roll is finished.
What it does
28 film stocks
Colour and black-and-white looks, each with its own contrast curve and grain pattern.
Grain and halation
Two sliders control texture and the red glow around bright highlights.
Roll mode
Shoot 36 frames without seeing them. The roll develops when the last frame is taken.
Batch and RAW
Apply one look to a whole album, and edit RAW files without converting them first.
New in version 1.9
- Four new black-and-white stocks
- Faster batch export
- Fixed a colour shift on wide-gamut displays
What it gets right
- Film looks hold up at full resolution
- Roll mode makes shooting deliberate
- Edits never alter the original photo
Where it falls short
- Only six stocks are free
- The priciest subscription on this chart
- No video support
