About Driftwell

Driftwell tracks sleep from a phone on the mattress or a watch on your wrist, then reports time asleep and time in each stage the next morning. The evening half of the app matters more. A wind-down routine dims the screen, plays a soundscape and walks you through a short breathing exercise.

Reports are plain. You get last night, the week and a trend, without a sleep score that scolds you.

What it does

  • Stage tracking

Shows deep, light and REM sleep through the night, with the times you were awake.

  • Wind-down routine

Starts at a time you set and runs three steps in order: dim, breathe, listen.

  • Soundscapes

42 field recordings, from rain on a tin roof to a night train. Each fades out once you are asleep.

  • Smart alarm

Wakes you during light sleep in the 30 minutes before your limit.

New in version 5.0

  • A redesigned morning report
  • Eight new soundscapes
  • The watch app now tracks without the phone nearby

What it gets right

  • The wind-down routine is useful from the first night
  • Sleep data stays on the device unless you turn on backup
  • Works with or without a watch

Where it falls short

  • Phone-only tracking is less accurate than a watch
  • Most soundscapes need Premium
  • A large download at 141 MB
